Mega Millions Jackpot Jumps Above $100 Million for First Time in Weeks
Mega Millions currently uses what is called a dual matrix to end winners. Ticket buyers hand-picked 5 numbers from a 1-56 grid (white balls) and one bevy out of a discriminate 1-46 matrix (the Mega Number, gold balls). Two machines soda out balls of sundry colors, as mentioned above, in fiat to initiate the numbers; the Mega Ball integer is pinched from a separate machine, so it can be a double of one of the white ball numbers.
This is comparable to most other systems that use a double matrix, such as California's own Super Lotto. There are currently 43 jurisdications that can actions in the game. Of those, 42 put up what is called the Megaplier.
By doubling down a their wager of $1, players can get the Megaplier, which gives them an occasion to multiply any NON-jackpot value by 2, 3, or 4 (this is not yet offered in California). The Megaplier is exhausted by the Texas Lottery (before the cross-sell inflation on January 31, 2010, it was the ONLY sweepstake to put up for sale Megaplier) through the use of a unpremeditated number generator. Mega Millions' largest "annuity" jackpot was $390 million for the March 6, 2007 drawing. Two tickets won; one each from Georgia and New Jersey.
Both sets of winners chose the bread payout option, splitting $233.1 million. The largest gelt jackpot was $240 million, for the January 4, 2011 drawing. However, because of more favorable vigorish rates in use to evaluate the 2007 annuity, that design was only the next largest annuity jackpot, at $380 million.
Once again, two tickets, one each from Post Falls, Idaho, and Ephrata, Washington, matched all six engaging numbers. The holders of each ticket chose the hard cash option.
